Assistive Technologies for Visually Impaired

Hi fellow Bloggers,
Kim Milan here as a first time Blogger. Assistive technologies have provided us exciting tools to aid those with disabilities. As stated in the excellent definition in Renee's post, this is a category that includes any individual with a disability. I chose to highlight a product that aids the visually impaired. I added  to the Assistive Technologies a links that provides news of new technologies for the blind or visually impaired.

I will be posting next week on resources gathered at the expo.

Assistive Technology tools and Update to blog

Alternative keyboards may vary in shape and size so as to meet the needs of individual users. For instance, a student with a visual impairment may have difficulty using a traditional keyboard, so an alternative keyboard with large and colorful keys may used to promote access.

Digital Pen/ Smart Pens: Smart pens are devices that capture audio, diagrams, words, and symbols. As you take notes as you write them.

The change that I made on the template is located on the Home page under the title box next to About, the title is Assistive Technology at your Library.

Shellie's Role on the Blog

The World Wide Web Consortium has a Web Accessible Initiative. This organization authored a set of guidelines that web designers can use to help make websites accessible to internet users with disabilities. A quick reference guide can be found at:  https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/quickref/
As we develop this blog, I will be attempting to keep the content compliant with W3's guidelines. I will also be attempting to keep our content compliant with the rubric for this assignment. So far I have added alt text to as many of the images as possible. I also moved Renee's excellent description from the 'About' page to the top of the 'Home' page, so that the blog would have a title block on the first page of the website.

Assistive Technology Tools

Hello everyone, my name is Amba. It is my first time creating blog on this social media.
Our group is addressing a very relevant topic which is Assistive Technology.
Assistive Technology or enhancements to technology, provides aid to people with various types of disabilities and also the elderly population.

Some of the tools for AT includes alternative keyboards, optical character recognition, digital pens, speech recognition, proofreading programs, e-books and e-readers.

What is Assitive Technology?

Hi everyone:) My name is Renee, and this blog will specialize in assistive technology in the library. I've set up the blog with the basics, and any admin can change what they like.

I don't know too much about assistive technology, but I look forward to learning more about this interesting topic as it relates to the library system from this group!

What is Assistive Technology?

Here's a good definition from the Assistive Technology Industry Association:
Assistive technology (AT): products, equipment, and systems that enhance learning, working, and daily living for persons with disabilities. Assistive technology (AT) is any item, piece of equipment, software program, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of persons with disabilities.
Happy blogging!
